When Shadows Rise

Jonas A. Lucado is a brilliant young cadet at a space force academy on Earth. Yet, he is unsure if he will be placed on an SKS starship — his ultimate dream: an assignment to the bridge crew. However, when he looks at a classified document without permission, he is stripped of his rank, transferred to a menial job aboard the frigate Royal Louis, and is ordered to be an observer when not working in the grime of the ship's recycling center.

The mission of the Royal Louis is unique — travel to a mysterious star system where ships suspiciously vanish. Upon discovery of a planetary cold war within the system, the captain is abducted and the ship is attacked. As a conspiracy unravels that involves a seemingly unrelated interstellar state that lost in a war, it seems Jonas may end up on the bridge of a starship after all.

As the rogue warlord Eqolo Svaennant seeks to exact revenge on the victors of a galactic war, it is up to Jonas and a group of starship personnel and alien soldiers to halt him in his warpath.
